One Fell Swoop
The Raiders announced today that they will hire Jon Gruden as their next coach. 10 years for $100 million dollars. With one fell swoop the Raiders just established consistency, quality coaching, and the attractiveness to sell tickets in Vegas.
The Jon Gruden hire will officially take place on Tuesday with a "Splashy" news conference as reported by Steve Corkran from Raiderssnakepit.com. If Jon Gruden fulfills his full term of the contract he will be only the 2nd head coach in Raiders history to coach the team for ten seasons. The first was John Madden. Let's hope Gruden can have the success Madden had.
Look out Wayne Newton
With the Raiders moving to Vegas the Raiders needed to do something to sell tickets. The brand itself wouldn't be enough. A 6-10 record certainly wouldn't be enough either. However, bringing in Gruden is going to make a splash not just in the NFL ranks but in the overall Sports realm overall. Few people associated with the NFL have a personality like Gruden and he's sure to be a big draw on the Strip in a couple years.
After the most disappointing season in many years, the Raiders immediately turn around and bring excitement to the franchise once again. Credit to Mark Davis for getting the Golden Goose. Time will tell if the gamble pays off. On the heels of Vegas, Raiders just went All-IN.
